A Heap of Anime Updates Landed During the Festive Season
The Christmas holidays present a wealth of activities considerably more enjoyable than checking the latest news: unwrapping gifts, getting stuffed on festive fare, and harnessing meditation skills to refrain from yelling at family members. It is wished you were able to accomplish all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world never sleeps, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. A slew of thrilling announcements came out during the festive period, and just in case you overlooked some of them, here is a roundup of the juiciest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (By 2027)
Without a doubt the biggest announcement, the widely-criticized disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to stop further production. The show will return with a subsequent part in 2027—such a distant date they could have labeled it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be in charge. Thankfully this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the beginning, which might be a good sign. But, the key visual for the continuation is identical to the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This leads one to believe that, nowadays, they could be trolling the fans.
Ruri Dragon Will Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has built a reputation for being an prestigious animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the exceptional quality of its output but for the good working conditions of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not produced an anime based on a manga published in Shonen Jump, arguably the best-known magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained widespread acclaim when it launched in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it resumed publication with a reduced workload, the series proved it maintained the fans' affection and positive sentiment, and now everyone is overjoyed about the impending KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel In Production
Kingdom is the highly popular, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English localization, but the anime has been airing for years, and its sixth season was yet another stellar entry. As it happens that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in production, and it will almost certainly air in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
One more studio renowned for the excellent quality of its projects, Science Saru has given us hit shows of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the true story of Fatima, an powerful woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and fascinating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my watchlist.
The Tougen Anki Series Will Return With a Season Two
Right after the airing of its twenty-fourth episode, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be getting a second season. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara.
